The Eastvale, Norco, Riverside, and Corona fire districts visited Legacy Foundations’ Hamner Bridge Project in Southern California for two days where they conducted training, evaluated project hazards, and performed safety drills. This visit allowed the project team to establish a positive relationship with the community’s emergency personnel.
Involving the fire department in project safety early on creates a mutual understanding of one another’s safety protocol, allowing the team to learn what to expect in the event a safety incident does occur. Following the success of this visit, the Riverside County Fire Department will conduct a live drill with Legacy High-Pick Rescue off the Hamner Bridge, where the team will react as if it was an accident incident, involving a closure of the bridge to perform a “rescue” from the bridge deck. The rescue will involve the team’s creation of an incident command center, assignments of employee roles and responsibilities, and use of the ladder truck.
